Spousal Support

Both parties may claim alimony or spousal support from the other based upon a plethora of factors that affect the equality of the case, such as their levels of incomes, needs, and resources of the parties. An important thing to realize is that the circumstances or reasons that the parties have separated, albeit adultery, cruelty, etc. do not automatically prevent an award of alimony — the reason is considered, but not a sure thing. Alimony may be awarded for different lengths of time depending on the needs of person receiving it. If circumstances exist where the party involved can not support his/her self, then alimony can be awarded for an indefinite length of time, however alimony can be awarded temporarily to allow time for the party involved to get back on their feet.
